Holly Humberstone ‘work in progress’ EP - A perfectly unfinished collection of songs.

Holly Humberstone, the 24 year old British singer-songwriter, whose critically acclaimed, top 5 debut record “Paint My Bedroom Black” dropped only 6 months ago, continues to prove herself as one of the main artists to watch with an impressive collection of songs, “work in progress”.

This feels like Holly at her most vulnerable, and the perfect next step to her already impressive career. Serving as a fan service of unreleased demos, Holly said to fans that “these songs were demos I couldn’t leave behind. I went back through the archives and discovered these lost older versions of myself mixed up with the present version of me”

Being a mix of her old and new sound, it will gladly surprise new listeners and longtime fans of projects such as “The Walls Are Way Too Thin”. It offers some of her best songs to date. “Dive” is an instant classic, not only are the lyrics top notch but her vocals will leave listeners glued to the rest of the record. The title track “Work In Progress” is a captivating track about a relationship in the works. She sings “I know that you’re incomplete, but that’s why I’m on your street again, I’m loving this work in progress.” It is a very raw and honest point in the record that will resonate with many.

The third track “Down Swinging” is a more upbeat track with incorporations of electronic sounds and grand instrumentation which translates into a very triumphant main character listening experience. The EP closes with the acoustic “Easy Tiger”, a stunning stripped back moment with cathartic lyrics. She sings “I get all dressed up for nothing… I get all messed up for nothing”. While being a very emotional song, it still gives listeners a sense of unity and hope “Settle down now, easy tiger, it’ll all be over soon… We’ll ride this out together”.

“work in progress”, while being a project full of demos, is still a powerful and well thought project made not only for the fans, but also for herself, feeling like a reassuring masterpiece from a star in the making.
