Even more great acts to catch at Truck Festival.

Truck Festival – one of the best, small indie music festivals in the UK – is steadily approaching, with a line-up filled to the brim with some of the best alternative artists around right now. So, if the headliners have enticed you and need some other acts to fill your day before their evening slots, here are my best recommendations for artists to catch, from post-punk to shoegaze to full-on orchestra:

SOFT PLAY

A post-punk duo from Tunbridge Wells who are playing on Truck’s Main Stage at 7:30pm on Saturday. With Isaac’s entertaining story-telling and their high-energy, hard-rock songs, SOFT PLAY will no doubt shake the main stage, leaving sweat and mosh pits in their midst.

NewDad

NewDad is an exciting up-and-coming band from Galway who take inspiration from 90’s bands like Slowdive and PJ Harvey. They are aiding the resurgence of shoegaze with their ethereal vocals and the distortion and reverb that echoes throughout their songs. You can find them on the Truck Stage on Friday at 4:15pm.

Been stellar

Been Stellar is an alternative five-piece with a sound that merges indie-rock, grunge, and garage-rock. They released a successful debut album in June with ten songs that are about anger, love and heartbreak in the city the band was formed in, New York. They are set to take over the Market Stage on Saturday at 2:45pm.

Divorce

The four-piece from Nottingham have a uniquely undefinable sound that is upbeat and addictive. They are an indie band with a country-rock and americana twist and elements of post-punk and 70’s pop-rock woven in. With both male and female vocals, each of their songs are different and their harmonies are smooth and satisfying. If Divorce intrigues you, you can watch them play on the Market Stage on Sunday at 4:45pm.

mary and the junkyard

mary and the junkyard are an experimental rock trio from South London who released their first EP, ‘this old house’, in May. Their songs have an ethereal and haunting quality. Clari Freeman-Taylor’s delicate, whispering vocals and beautifully poetic lyrics are assisted by the sound of strings, played by the bassist and viola player, Saya Barbaglia. You can find them playing The Nest on Sunday at 3:45pm.

The Wytches

This heavy-rock four-piece from Brighton, who have a wide inspiration from Black Sabbath to early Arctic Monkeys, are taking over The Nest Stage with their colossal guitar riffs, crashing drums and loud, rasping vocals. You can catch their set at 7:00pm.

Oxford Symphony Orchestra

A Truck classic, the Oxford Symphony Orchestra is always a performance to watch. Their orchestral covers of well-known and well-loved songs are enjoyed by all, with the atmosphere being one of the liveliest each year. Surprisingly, you will never fail to find a mosh pit during this performance. You can be a part of this on the last day of the festival, Sunday at 12:00pm.
